Good, Good Friday

We went to UP today because the girls finished late with their review. We didn’t have enough time to go to Intramuros before the sun sets, so we just decided to have long walks for exercise in UP–the nearest open space. Since today is Good Friday, we were just in time for the carroza procession of the statues of saints in black and the Santo Entierro (dead Jesus). Traditionally there would be a mass before 3 pm afterwhich the Catholic church will go dark after the last carroza enters the church gates after the procession.

We watched this kind of procession in Pampanga in 2019 when we went to see the actual crucifixion of a man, which aas his annual panata (pledge).

They stationed themselves at the amphitheater while I had one lap around the oval to have my exercise.

Then we stayed at Quezon Hall so I can do my stretchings until the sun went down.

Tonight they’re staying with their dad and will just come back in the morning to clean their bikes so we can drive to Intramuros or Baywalk and bike there.

My exercise was short so I continued my workout at home.

This is a reminder that I can still reach my foot from behind. More yoga please! Photo by CallMeCreation.com

My yoga mat is still dirty I ought to clean it tomorrow. But my freshly vacuumed bedroom floor will do for now.

This is a love letter to myself (and my girls when they get to read this in the future), reminder that I should take care of my body not because I need to attract men but to make me feel good and to protect myself from non-communicable diseases. Diabetes runs in my family and my father died of diabetes complications. I don’t post such photos on social media but posting this on my nameless blog is like an accountability to myself and for my girls to read when I’m already gone.

So tomorrow, Sabado de Gloria, we clean and oil our bikes and off we go to the Old City to see old churches. All the saints’ statues and even the cross will be draped in black cloth until the Easter salubong (Mary Magdelene meeting the Risen Christ) at dawn.

My daughters’ day

11th year. Photo by CallMeCreation.com

I just ordered stuff via Grab today so we can relax and we can attend to school work and my work. One of my good friends from the industry also sent the girls a cake, matcha strawberry.

Then they spent the rest of the day with their dad, who took them to Estancia Mall in Kapitlyo, Pasig. They came home in time for a shower and straight to bed.

The girls were happy. They’re easy to please and they don’t ask much. They’re happy with their bunnies and my sister offered to have them framed.

Twin I asked about their other twin sisters—the cats. They declared that their birthday is on the 12th of April 2020. So I said, Ok, I’m gonna make their sketches as well.

Laziness has set in today because my body knew that this is supposed to be a week-long holiday…And yet I edited and interviewed somebody from Singapore whom I need to visit when I get there. I also set up an interview on Monday with an aviation company. I think I must draft today’s interview by tomorrow or else I may forget the details after this week. My brain cells are already protesting.

Tomorrow I will cook as my daughters’ friend is coming over.

My call with my new manager and outgoing manager will also be tomorrow for the turnover of duties. I don’t know when they will formally announce the transition so that all communication and PRs should be directed to me from now on. Drats, I just had 400 business cards printed with my old designation.

It takes a long time for paperwork to be settled 🙄

I want to have a week-long break before chaos officially starts.

Happy birthday to my twins!

All my sacrifices to bring you where you are now are all worth it. I’m sorry if I let other people hurt you. Never again.

May you always be happy, God-fearing, and understanding. I love you to the moon and back.

In the depths of my depression, you were the only reason that kept me going and made me want to get better. You two made me a better person. I didn’t know the kind of strength that I had been hiding until you came along.

And when you have flown out of my nest, I hope you always find ways to come back home.

Love, Mommy.

Since this sketch is in my sketchbook, I scanned it and printed it on Kodak photo paper so both of them can have copies.

And I left it on their desks so that’s the first thing they see in the morning.

Weekend errands

New paintings on the wall. Art and photo by CallMeCreation.com

I started the day with hammering picture hooks on the wall again to replace my sister’s red and black painting of hell with more wholesome pictures—of flowers. Twin I, who sits on that table, agrees with the changes.

But she commented that the orange opium poppy flowers looked like corals. 🤨

A nap after lunch then off we went to Marikina to indulge my container gardening hobby. Bought several clay pots. 😂 At least my flowers live compared to my vegetables. I will try growing vegetables once again starting tomorrow. Will see if my compost will be worth the hard work.

After this, we went to Tiendesitas to buy cat supplies and to check out Decathlon to see if I can buy fins.

Everybody bought swimming/snorkeling/diving gears in preparation for the Holy Week exodus to the beaches next week and Decathlon no longer has my size. Even online. I am giving Twin I my old fins because she again outgrew the new ones I bought a few months ago.

So now I have to order online from Divers Point Co. (after we got home) for that Beuchat freediving fins I had my eye on for a year now.

And the diving buoy.

I hope my orders arrive on time. I didn’t buy weeks ahead because some fuck-ups may rear their ugly heads again, just like what happened last year when the world shut down for the nth time due to COVID surge after I booked our reservation at Blue Ribbon. This time, even if it rains, we will forge ahead. I’m so tired of delays and more shit keeping us from diving again.

For other diving needs like reel and line to attach myself to the buoy, diving flags/early warning device, diving belt and weights, I would just have to rent them from Blue Ribbon. I’ll buy them next time in-store from Divers Point when we go for another Anilao trip or when I push through with my Palawan trip.

After our disappointing trip to Decathlon—I only got to buy a new water bottle cage for my bike—we had an early dinner at Pancake House. To keep me from doom scrolling on my phone while we waited for our food, I tried sketching again.

We stopped by Mr DIY for some notebooks (for Twin I), a stuffed toy pillow for the swivel chair (for Twin A), and cat leash…

…that our cats rejected with their whole being. We tried it on them and they hated us from their core of their souls. See how Kimchi just kicked it out of the way. It was the body leash—the least invasive version of it (compared to the body wrap) but still they hissed their way out of them.

So no cat walking for us.

Tomorrow let’s see if they change their minds. 😂

Lazy Sunday

Lunch/dinner. Photo by CallMeCreation.com

I slept earlier than usual last night but I still woke up at 10 am. The only thing I did today was to grill these pork chops and then repotted some plants in pots that are not draining well. Also planted some marigolds, calendula, aster, and leeks. I have more luck growing flowering plants than vegetables but let’s see again if I can grow leeks, which I consume a lot in a week.

In between, I helped my daughters review their music lesson—textures and dynamics—which they had trouble with because it’s hard understanding triads, monotones, etc through remote teaching without a piano accompaniment. So I told them they should take advantage of their mom who knows a thing or two about music. I demonstrated to them the lessons with the help of my piano playing, Youtube, and Spotify.

It was already 5:30 pm when I was done with the garden. I took a long, luxurious shower, and rested while I was booking a Zennya massage. Then I fell asleep again! I don’t know what’s my body trying to tell me but maybe it’s making up for weeks/months of not being able to properly sleep. It seems like my mental state is more relaxed now after a tumultuous February so my body has uncurled from its formerly tense and rigid state. Thank God for that! I pray that this will continue so I can move on to bigger things like starting to build my new flat.

And no Zennya. I couldn’t book a massage therapist. It seems like everybody is spending lazy Sundays like I do.

I am resisting the urge to do more DIYs around here but this guy is convincing me to buy that jigsaw and do more magic.

In the meantime, I’m finishing the curtains for the house to block out the intense sunlight and to replace the ones mangled by my cats 🐱😹

I’m starting to love weekends again ❤️❤️❤️

My daughters will soon be teenagers

Clothes shopping at SM Marikina. Photo by CallMeCreation.com

I took my children clothes shopping because they have again outgrown the clothes I just bought them months ago. Now that we’re more mobile and we will be traveling once again, they needed well-fitting clothes and shoes. I haven’t even bought them their school clothes/shoes/bags because they may no longer fit by June.

Their sizes and styles are already in the teens’ section. Or even adult section. Twin I’s shoe size is already EU 37 while mine is EU 38. Some of my old clothes already fit her.

Before clothes shopping, I tried this Korean-style corn dog I found at Monterey Community Market. The girls liked them.

I’m too lazy to cook today so we just had dinner at Calle Reyes in SM Marikina. It was good since it looks like the people behind Calle Reyes are the same ones who put up Reyes Barbecue. I did a very quick sketch while we waited for our food. I only had my passport-sized notebook that was just for jotting down notes and sticking receipts to document the day. It wasn’t meant for drawings or watercolors.

The deserts are Filipino, which is good in my book.

The macapuno inside the crepe is not too sweet as the one I am accustomed to since sweetened macapuno in Batangas, the one I grew up on, was always sickly sweet as they use this to add to halo-halo.

I am addicted to sketching notebooks. I bought new ones even though I haven’t finished one sketch notebook.

Well, the opportunity to fill these up will be coming since it will only be three weeks before we begin diving again. Woohoo!

Oh yeah, I need to buy new freediving flippers.
