And truth she has spoken.
I love this freedom.
Warning
by Jenny Joseph
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we’ve no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I’m tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people’s gardens
And learn to spit. You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes. But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
I didn’t realize that yesterday was a holiday. I was about to start working when my sister messaged me that the supermarket was full of people and it was only then she realized it was Ninoy Aquino Day.
So I just spent the day lounging around. I didn’t even tell the bosses that I’m taking the day off. Well, after what I’ve been through for a month of not getting paid, I don’t think this company deserves any courtesy.
It’s only today that I started to behave like an adult and did some chores and errands. I had my mini washing machine repaired, which was done under 30 mins!

While I don’t usually use this as much as my bigger LG automatic washer, I simply cannot live without this mini version because I’m lazy. I don’t want to wash foot mats, dirty bags, sneakers, and rags by hand. I only paid PHP 300 for a longer lease in life for my mini washer.
I also had my knives and scissors sharpened by a local black smith, only 500m away from the washing machine repair shop. I always get irritated when my knives are blunt when cutting tomatoes and onions.

I love living in the province when it comes to simple things like this. I can easily locate where the blacksmith, washer repair shop, and seamstress are. I’m not spending hours driving just to have these small tasks done.
Meanwhile, my cute freeloaders are just chilling.
