The Sarimanok (giant chicken with colorful tail), the glimpses of the manananggal, the kapre, and other Philippine mythical creatures were there. The anik-anik (the friendship bracelet), references to the blood compact. The classrooms, the metal school chairs, the school uniforms — they very much look like Philippine public schools.

That made me cry. Representation matters a lot.
